Students in this program complete course work and practicum experiences focused on the understanding and integration of individual lifestyle dynamics within marital and family systems. Graduates of the program have a theoretical understanding of individual, couple, and family systems, including developmental issues and major variations; assessment skills in life style and systemic diagnosis; and intervention skills based upon major models of marital and family therapy, with the theory, values, and techniques of Alfred Adler as a foundation. The Adler School of Professional Psychology is the oldest independent school of psychology in the US. Founded in 1952, the school continues the work of Alfred Adler, the first community psychologist. Adler School pursues social responsibility through service to communities, as well as service to diverse and marginalized populations. The school includes a home campus in the Chicago Loop and a growing campus in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. These courses should include general or introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, theories of personality, and research methods. Similar coursework from departments such as marriage and family studies, sociology, and gender and women’s studies will also be considered.
