The graduate program in History of Art is geared toward preparing students for academic and curatorial careers. It aims first and foremost to provide both the broad intellectual foundation and specialized training needed to conduct scholarly research. The program is designed to be completed in six and one-half to seven years, four of which are spent in residence. The first two years are devoted to intensive coursework intended to acquaint students with the principal methods and materials used in the historical study of the visual arts and visual culture.
