This program prepares baccalaureate nurses to provide care to children who receive services in ambulatory and acute settings, a variety of clinical agencies and the home. The services provided by PNPs include (1) promoting, maintaining and restoring health through history taking, physical assessment, diagnostic tests prescribing and educating children and families; (2) collaborating and consulting with other professionals; (3) coordinating services for children and families; and (4) referrals to other professionals as appropriate. Practicums and clinical seminars are tailored to meet the educational needs of the student. Students are encouraged to initiate and/or participate in research projects focused on improving the quality and cost effectiveness of health care to children and their families. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for several national certification examinations depending on the focus of their study and to be certified by the New York State Education Department.
