Ph.D.- Classical Art and Archaeology
On Campus

The purpose of the Program is to train promising students in the numerous and varied aspects of the discipline of classical archaeology. Students are encouraged to take advantage of course offerings and faculty expertise in those Departments of the University of Michigan which are integral to individual students' areas of special involvement. University teaching and museum positions available to graduates of this Program will vary according to the special interests developed in this manner by each student. The Program offers a Master of Arts degree, which is seen as marking significant progress toward the Ph.D. and can normally be earned after three semesters of full-time study in residence. The M.A. is not normally awarded as a terminal degree. The Program expects students to complete the Ph.D. by the end of their sixth year.
