Students may, but are not required to, receive a Master's degree in the process of completing doctoral requirements. On Campus   Family Studies is the investigation of marriages, families, and other intimacy-based relationships. It draws on social and behavioral disciplines including sociology, psychology, biology, human development, and anthropology to build an interdisciplinary view of families. The graduate program in Family Studies prepares individuals for research, college-level teaching, and professional positions that relate to families. The Family Studies program focuses on how family relationships develop and change, with particular attention to influences in the larger environment such as gender, age, historical period, birth cohort, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Students in Family Studies supplement their coursework with research experiences and professional opportunities. Applicants who do not meet this prerequisite, but are otherwise qualified for admission, are required to complete remediation courses during their first year of study.
