Training in toxicology at Duke for predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows who hold Ph.D., M.D., or D.V.M. degrees emphasizes an integrated approach to teaching and research. The interdepartmental program brings together students and faculty members who are trained in various specific disciplines to interact in the examination of toxicological problems. Faculty members are aligned with one or more of the following subdisciplines of toxicology: mutagenesis and carcinogenesis, oxidative stress and pulmonary toxicology, endocrine disruptors and developmental toxicology, neurotoxicology, and environmental toxicology. The primary mission of this program is to give students a sound theoretical base for a career in toxicology with sound laboratory training in experimental toxicology.
