M.F.A. - Studio Art

The graduate program in the Department of Art provides specialized training in individual studio areas (including graphic design) leading to the terminal degree in studio art. The M.F.A. program provides customized teaching to graduate students, often on a one-to-one basis. Students work closely with professors in specialized areas of expertise. The intimate nature of the program is a positive trait related to the program's moderate size. The interaction and interfacing of students involved in different media emphases is a strong feature. Another strength is the strong national and international appeal of our program, which attracts students from throughout the nation and the world. The graduate program in art is characterized by flexibility of offerings, studio spaces, providing students with opportunities to explore a variety of interests and develop expertise in chosen media. Students may choose to focus on one or more of the following areas: drawing, painting, graphic design, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, fiber art, watercolor, photography, video art or metal working.
