The Department of English and Modern Languages offers programs leading to the degree of Master of Arts in English with concentrations in Creative Writing, in Literature, in English Education and Writing, and in English 6-12 Initial Teaching Licensure. All graduate students in the Creative Writing or Literature concentrations must write a thesis; students in the English Education and Writing concentration may choose to write a thesis or take a comprehensive examination; students in the 6-12 Initial Licensure concentration may choose to complete an action research project or take a comprehensive examination. In addition, the department offers courses in support of the Master of Science in Education/Curriculum and Instruction Specialist in Modern Languages (applicants must already hold a valid teaching license), and the Master of Science in Education/Modern Languages/ESL PreK-12 Initial Teaching Licensure.
   
Accreditation Information: English Education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
