This prestigious MD program is taught in English at the main campus of the University, which is located in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, in the heart of the Caribbean. This convenient location is just 90 minutes from the southeast of Florida, and 40 minutes from the west of Puerto Rico. Its climate is warm and tropical all year round with an average temperature of 77° Fahrenheit.

Although the program is completely taught in English the students take four levels of Spanish language which allow them easier interaction with the community and the patients of the hospitals. Sub-internship rotations are accomplished at the University's own hospital and twelve other affiliated specialized hospitals.

UNIBE is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and appears in the WHO list of Universities abroad. Students and graduates are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE). Passing Parts I and II are pre-requisites for obtaining certification by the Educational Commission on Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). UNIBE graduated students who pass USMLE exams receive the ECFMG certification, thus obtaining eligibility to start Residency Training.

UNIBE is an approved University for several Students Loans:- United States students are eligible to participate in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) in the chapter of Federal Stafford Loans (FSL).- Canada students are eligible to participate in the Canada Student Loans (CSL) program, and other province programs.
