Twenty-Five years ago, the National Institute on Aging recognized ULM's excellence in aging by awarding the University funds to develop the first Center on Aging in Louisiana. Since that time, the Institute of Gerontology has led the state in offering and developing coursework in Gerontology. We have the distinction of being the only university in Louisiana to offer the M.A. Degree in Gerontology, the first to offer the Certificate in Gerontology, as well as being continuously recognized by the Louisiana Board of Regents for Higher Education as a "Unique Area of Excellence." Through our research on aging, teaching and community service the Institute of Gerontology is the premiere social & behavioral research and education unit for Gerontology in Louisiana. Our multidisciplinary faculty research focuses on the social and behavioral aspects of aging and health. In June of 2007, the ULM Gerontology became the first and only NAB Accredited Gerontology Graduate Program in the United States The Institute of Gerontology offers multiple educational program; the M.A. Degree in Gerontology and Certificate of Gerontology and the Online Gerontology M.A. Degree and Certificate. We are now accepting applications for both the traditional and online degree and certificate programs. Assistantships are available for qualified students. All online students pay in state tuition.

Accreditation Information: The online and traditional gerontology program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards
