Our 40-credit M.A. program in Sociology of Education prepares graduates for careers as professional educational researchers in a variety of settings including research, evaluation, and policy organizations; government agencies; and youth and community service organizations. Develop sophisticated skills in quantitative methodology and policy analysis. Or undertake a flexible program in education scholarship, which facilitates the study of schools from a range of humanistic and social science perspectives. Take courses at the Steinhardt School, in NYUÆs nationally ranked Department of Sociology (within the Graduate School of Arts and Science) and at the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Design and carry out original research under the guidance of our expert faculty. For those interested in doctoral study, the goals of our small and highly selective doctoral program are to prepare future professors of educational sociology for schools and colleges of education or for universities with specializations in the area of sociology as it applies to education and to prepare researchers who can conduct basic and applied research in various public and private institutions in order to advance both the practice of education and the study of sociology.
