Service industries have invested over $1 trillion in information technology in the past decade, and have grown steadily in employment, scale, technological sophistication, and capital intensity. Considering the size of the service sector and its importance to the economy, it is surprising that very few educational programs are devoted to research and education in services. The Department of Decision Sciences and Engineering Systems (DSES) at Rensselaer is home to the Center for Services Research and Education, one of the few research centers in the world focusing on the service sector. This MEng program, the only one of its kind in the country, emphasizes the integration of people, systems, and technology. The program is designed to prepare professionals, with or without an engineering degree, to pursue technical and managerial careers in service industries. The certificate consists of 12 credit hours.
