University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development Environmental Education 107 Sports and Health Center 1216 Ordean Court Duluth, MN 55812-3032 US   Phone: 1-218-726-8677   At a Glance Program Requirements Tuition & Financial Aid Institution Overview Important Dates Upcoming Events Degrees: Program Format: Master's M.Ed.-Environmental Education Certificate Certificate in Environmental Education On Campus   The purpose of the Master of Education in Environmental Education program is to develop advanced practitioners in environmental education who will take on leadership roles through positions such as educators and directors at nature centers, outdoor and environmental education centers, natural resource agencies, conservation groups, park and recreation programs, and in P-16 school settings. Program requirements include a.) EE coursework in teaching methodology in formal and non-formal settings; program development, management, and evaluation; theory; and research (23 credits); b.) elective courses supporting specific areas of interest (5-7 credits); and c.) a final research or field project (4-6 credits). Students may complete the degree in two years if they follow the recommended program plan. In addition to, or in lieu of a M.Ed., a Certificate in Environmental Education can be pursued at UMD. The certificate is an educational program designed for professional educators who want to enhance their careers by obtaining formal training in environmental education.
