Doctoral
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine
On Campus

National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) has delivered unparalleled quality instruction in the field of chiropractic medicine since 1906. National brings this same dedication to academic excellence to the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Program. Naturopathic students are trained as primary care physicians and are provided with a rigorous curriculum that blends a thorough scientific foundation with comprehensive training in naturopathic treatments. ND students take the same intensive basic science courses as chiropractic medicine students, and also learn holistic and preventive approaches to therapy with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness. Courses include clinical nutrition, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, physical medicine, psychology, and counseling. Students also gain clinical experience in National’s on-campus integrative care center. ND students also learn the principles and practices of running a successful and ethical practice including marketing techniques, the legal and financial aspects of a business, and how to develop a business plan for the future. National’s Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Program, which began in Fall 2006, was granted candidacy by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education in March 2008. Candidacy is a status of affiliation that indicates the naturopathic medicine program is progressing toward accreditation. Candidacy also assures that graduates of the ND program are eligible to sit for licensing examinations. As one of only two institutions in the U.S. to combine chiropractic, oriental and naturopathic medicine on one campus, students have the unique opportunity to participate in integrated learning situations. Instead of competing with each other, NUHS students are able to dialogue together, share collaborative research and clinical care opportunities, and work together to provide their future patients with the best of natural health care.
