Master's
M.A. in Interpersonal and Public Communication
On Campus

Our nationally-recognized faculty offer a superior educational experience to graduate students preparing to meet their academic and career aspirations. The program, with its focus on communication theory and research, provides a broad foundation upon which a variety of careers can be built. Former graduate students currently hold jobs in academe, training and human resources, public relations, sales and marketing, consulting, media and broadcasting, and law. This program offers one-on-one, personalized attention from faculty mentors, small classes, and competitive graduate assistantships. The graduate teaching assistant training program, recognized as one of the top in the nation, prepares assistants to teach independent sections of the basic course. With a reputation for teaching excellence and classroom experience, our former teaching assistants often pursue careers as instructors at the community college level or go on for doctoral work and obtain positions as professors at the university level. CMU, Michigan’s fourth largest public university with about 20,000 on-campus students, offers a vibrant, friendly campus atmosphere in a park-like setting. We’ve got some of the most spacious residence hall rooms in Michigan. Although CMU’s main campus covers 480 acres, you’ll find it seldom takes more than 10 minutes to walk from class to class – unless you stop to chat or relax along one of many walkways winding through CMU’s landscaped campus. The campus represents both our rich tradition and our commitment to the future. At the center, you’ll find the dignified older buildings of an institution that was founded more than a century ago. Blended among them are modern residence halls and academic facilities that reflect the university’s dedication to preparing you for your future. Grassy malls and our six-acre Central Park are at the heart of campus and adjoin the buildings. Apply today!
