Teaching artfully. This is what teachers can do if they are well grounded in studio and versed in the many ways in which the studio experience can be enriched through dialogue and reflection. More than ever, the art-making process is needed in the schools. It aides visual learning, cultivates visual language as an alternative to the written and spoken word, offers sensuous materials through which to forge ideas, provides a vehicle for self-expression, and stimulates a dialogue among students and teachers. It is hard to image an effective school without the visual arts and it is impossible to create a dynamic art program without a teacher well-versed in art.
