Faculty and students use state-of-the-art clinical and technological resources to advance the field of communication science through research and clinical care. Gross anatomy is taught during the first year by the same faculty who teach our medical students. Coursework emphasizes diagnosis and treatment of medically-involved patients from pediatrics through geriatrics. Clinical rotations include tertiary care hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, and schools for children with special needs. We also offer our students the opportunity to qualify for the Initial Teaching Certificate in New York State should they wish to work in Early Intervention or school-based settings. The MS in Speech-Language Pathology provides entry-level professional education. Our curriculum accommodates students who do not have an undergraduate degree in speech-language pathology without the need for additional coursework. Instead, these students are provided with a self-directed program of study that introduces them to basic concepts in the field. Although we are medically oriented, the program provides a quality generalized training that prepares new clinicians for practice in any setting. Completion of the program leads to qualification for licensure and credentials necessary for entry into the profession.
