The graduate program in Near Eastern studies emphasizes the languages, literatures, history, and culture of the Near East, with a particular focus on the ancient, classical, and medieval periods.
The program is designed to help students acquaint themselves with the fundamental elements of these cultures, and also to acquire a high degree of specialization in one of the following areas: ancient Near Eastern and biblical studies; ancient, medieval, and modern Jewish history; Islamic history and law; Ottoman history; and medieval Hebrew and Arabic literature.
