The graduate program of the Indiana University School of Journalism has two missions: to help students learn how to do journalism, and to help them understand how journalism works in society. We have two tracks at the master's level: a professional track and a research/teaching track. The professional track offers an accelerated program focused on newspaper, magazine, and online writing, editing, and reporting and is open to students who do not have an undergraduate degree in journalism or journalism experience. The emphasis of the research/teaching track is the study of the media in society. The research/teaching track is designed for those interested in careers in research or teaching or who intend to pursue the Ph.D.In addition to the MA degree, we offer a Ph.D. program designed to provide a strong foundation for a career in teaching and research.
