In addition to administering anesthesia and monitoring patients during surgery, these competencies include selecting and administering preoperative medication and anesthesia and managing postoperative recovery from anesthesia.The program combines academic and clinical anesthesia courses taught at Hurley and at the University of Michigan-Flint. At the completion of the program, a Master of Science in Anesthesia degree is granted by the University of Michigan-Flint. Graduates then are eligible to take the National Certification Examination.Certification is required by law in two-thirds of the states and by the majority of employers to practice as a nurse anesthetist.     Accreditation Information: The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs  # Of Credits Required:   Time To Degree:     Previous Degrees 1. Current, unrestricted, licensure as a Registered Nurse in Michigan or one of the United States or protectorates 2. A bachelor's degree in nursing or an appropriate biological science from an accredited institution 3. A minimum of one year's experience as a registered nurse in a critical care nursing area. 4. Current Certification as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider (ACLS) 5. Current Certification as a Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider (PALS) 6. GRE  Pre-Requisite Courses A. One course in: -Statistics -Fundamentals of Chemistry I (Inorganic Chemistry) -Fundamentals of Chemistry Laboratory (strongly recommended) -Organic Chemistry -College Algebra (or demonstrated competence through math placement test) and B.
