Vermont Law School is nationally recognized for the strength and breadth of its environmental law programs. The Master of Studies in Environmental Law (M.S.E.L.) is a unique, interdisciplinary degree in environmental law and policy. It is open to environmental professionals seeking to broaden their expertise, as well as to people with a background in law (such as law students and lawyers) seeking a concentration in environmental law. The one-year curriculum includes more than fifty courses in environmental law, policy, science, and ethics. Law students may pursue the M.S.E.L. on a summers-only basis by attending the Environmental Law Center's Summer Session. The First Nations Environmental Law Program offers courses in Indian country environmental law and a Fellowship for members of federally recognized Indian tribes who wish to use the M.S.E.L. degree to address environmental problems in their communities.
