Pratt Institute School of Art and Design Creative Arts Therapy 200 Willoughby Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11205 US   Phone: 1-718-636-3428 Fax: 1-718-636-3597   At a Glance Program Requirements Tuition & Financial Aid Institution Overview Important Dates Upcoming Events Degrees: Program Format: Master's M.P.S. - Art Therapy and Creativity Development; M.P.S. - Art Therapy-Special Education On Campus   Students learn Creative Arts Therapy skills as applied to a wide variety of patient populations, including prevention and wellness, psychiatric in-patient and out-patient, substance abuse, eating disorders, geriatric, special education, therapeutic nurseries, families, medical rehabilitation, Child Life, AIDS, and the homeless. The department also publishes the Pratt Institute Creative Arts Therapy Review, composed of student articles. The program uses a process-oriented, experiential approach to art therapy, focusing on its use as a primary therapy. The use of creativity in treatment is fundamental, emphasizing inherent healing properties. Imagery is explored by looking at patient work and the therapist's own imagery , the latter helping to understand the therapeutic relationship. Equal emphasis is given to class work and internship experience. Dance therapy students are in 50% of the classes, offering students a chance to explore the universality of the creative arts therapies, as well as focusing on the specifics of the visual arts in treatment.
