The MA was established in 1991 as one of the first 4 programs in the country. The first year core of 6 required courses introduces students to the central issues in women's studies scholarship. The second year includes a 2-quarter research seminar in the student's area of interest. In the sixth quarter, the student typically prepares for the MA oral examination and completes an interdisciplinary research paper.
