Georgetown University's Department of Biology recognizes that there are many career opportunities in the exciting and rapidly changing field of biology. It, therefore, offers programs leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. It has nationally recognized research programs funded by major governmental organizations including NIH, NSF, and USDA, with additional support from local and national granting organizations. Students take innovative first-year courses that provide a strong foundation in contemporary biological concepts, as well as a personalized set of courses related to their intellectual goals. In addition to receiving intensive research training, students obtain faculty-assisted education in the development of teaching skills and scientific communication.
