Doctoral
Ph.D. - Linguistics
On Campus

The graduate program in linguistics was founded in 1961, and produced its first PhDs in 1965. Over the years, graduates of the MIT doctoral program in linguistics have taken positions in many leading linguistics departments of the world (and have founded several of these departments). Their work has developed in many different directions. MIT alumni now provide much of the intellectual community that makes contemporary linguistics such a strong and lively branch of the cognitive sciences.
