The Department of Performance Studies educates students, produces research, and supports public artsinitiatives that extend and deepen the understanding of performance as central to the human condition. The graduate program in performance studies is grounded in the investigation of performance as artistic practice and as means of understanding historical, social, and cultural practices. Students develop critical and analytical skills, conduct research and engage performance as both subject and method of study. Students enter either the MA program; the PhD program, if an MA has been received and credits are transferable; or the MA/PhD program, in which the MA is completed, immediately followed by coursework toward the PhD.
