The PhD in political economy and Government (PEG) is intended for scholars interested in either academic or policy-making careers requiring advanced study in and research using both economics and political science. It is appropriate only for the small number of students whose academic interests cannot be served by doctoral studies in economics, political science, or public policy. Typically, candidates have career interests in areas that require mastery of several academic disciplines, such as international development, congressional decision-making regarding policies with major economic implications, international economic diplomacy, and defense and arms control policy. This is a highly specialized program allowing a substantially individualized course of study.
