Students may apply directly for the PhD degree. Alternatively, students may choose to pursue the MS-PhD option, or the standalone MS option. The graduate program in Civil Engineering at Northwestern is ranked in the top ten nationwide by US News and World Report, and Environmental Engineering is ranked in the top twenty. Graduate students take courses and carry out research with internationally renowned faculty (five of our faculty are members of the National Academy of Engineering and two are also members of the National Academy of Sciences.) The Department also administers the Program in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, which offers PhD and MS degrees. The Department is also home to our Master of Project Management program, a professional masters program which prepares experienced engineers to advance as civil engineering managers.
