The program's primary goal is to train students in research in and teaching of the basic processes of human development (e.g., cognition, socialization, physiological) and on problems of development (e.g., attachment in infants born prematurely, information processing in learning disabled children, substance abuse). Graduates are trained for positions in university departments of psychology, human development, and neuropsychology; in teaching hospitals; and in laboratories that conduct research on intervention strategies, program evaluation, and longterm consequences of early experience.
