Students take a two-week colloquium on humanistic writing, a core course on the foundations of interpretive theory, and a workshop that accompanies their writing of a thesis on a topic of their choosing under the guidance of a faculty adviser. They also design a curriculum of seven courses selected from the whole University of Chicago catalogue. The curricula of current students curricula run the gamut between the discipline-specific and the broadly interdisciplinary. Many graduates of the program have continued on into Ph.D. programs at outstanding universities, including the University of Chicago.
