Upon successful completion of the professional curriculum at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree is obtained. As discussed earlier, this professional education offers a wide variety of careers in veterinary medicine. The four-year curriculum provides students with a theoretical and practical foundation in basic biological sciences and medicine and a broad range of clinical training and experience.

The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine has also established two joint degree programs. In conjunction with the College of Law, students are allowed to receive both the D.V.M. and the Juris Doctor J.D.) degrees in a course of study administered by both colleges. The Veterinary Medicine Research Scholars Program includes work toward joint degrees in both the D.V.M. and M.S. or both the D.V.M. and Ph.D. programs. The student pursues his or her chosen graduate field of study in a concurrent program, the length of which is dependent on student progress.
