The School of Communication at American University offers master’s degree programs in Print, Broadcast, and Interactive Journalism with a focus on investigative journalism and public affairs. The School also offers an MA in News Media Studies. In the 33-credit hour Print Journalism program, students prepare for careers at newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and online publications. Students take advantage of SOC's unique location in Washington, D.C., regularly interviewing members of Congress, senior administration officials, and executives of prominent interest groups. The Broadcast program is designed to give graduates the skills necessary to enter today's competitive broadcast and cable journalism marketplace. Students learn about the role of the media in Washington institutions and ways in which the news businesses operate. Designed for working professionals, the 30-hour Interactive Journalism and News Media programs each consist of a 20-month weekend curriculum and are designed both for those changing careers and professional journalists seeking to further their education or teach at the university level.
