The Graduate Program in Chemistry is one of eleven Ph.D. programs in Arts and Sciences at Dartmouth College. Dartmouth is the smallest of the Ivy League institutions, and the tradition of close student and faculty interaction, for which the undergraduate program is widely known, is also a hallmark of the Chemistry graduate program. There are sixteen tenured or tenure-track faculty with active research programs as well as nine adjunct, emeritus, or long-term visiting faculty most of whom also maintain research programs and often serve in an auxiliary role on student research committees. In addition, ten to fifteen postdoctoral research associates are in residence during a typical year. The program accepts eight to twelve new Ph.D. students each year so that the overall enrollment is approximately forty and the close interaction of all members of the department is maintained. Above all, the faculty strives to retain the high quality of the program.
