For the artist who holds an undergraduate degree in visual art, or its equivalent, the Master of Arts in Teaching offers advanced studio courses and entry level art teacher preparation. This full-time program may be completed in one year and a summer with students beginning course work in the Tufts University Summer School during the summer preceding their fall acceptance. With the beginning of the fall semester, students take courses at the Museum School. During the fall semester students complete art education, education, and studio courses. In the spring they experience a full and intensive semester which includes a practicum in art in either an elementary or secondary school setting.

The MAT in Art Education is a one year, 11 course program that leads to N-9 and 5-12 Provisional Teacher Certification in Massachusetts and its reciprocal states. After attainment of the MAT degree and the provisional teacher certificate, a candidate may apply to the Certificate After Graduate Study (CAGS) that leads to Full Teacher Certification.
