The Ph.D. degree is awarded for original research conducted under the supervision of a faculty advisor. With the large amount of sponsored research in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, opportunities exist for research in most areas. Many Ph.D. students are supported on research assistantships, others hold teaching assistantships, and some study part-time.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers two doctoral degrees: a Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Doctoral Degree in Computer Engineering.

Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering

At Northeastern the Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering can be research oriented, or it can be part-time for the working student. Many full-time students are supported under either teaching or research assistantships which are awarded competitively during the application process, and which are occasionally available at other times. Part-time students will find that courses are scheduled to allow them to maintain a full-time career. Applicants for part-time study may apply for admittance in the fall or spring semesters.

Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Leadership

ECE Leadership is offered in conjunction with the intensive one-year Gordon Engineering Leadership Program. The program involves a full-time internship with skilled mentors and practitioners and formal instruction in the areas of Engineering Leadership and Scientific Foundations of Engineering.
