The Master of Science degree requires a sequence of six advanced research courses, covering topics related to biochemistry, genetic engineering, and special laboratory techniques. After this, the student may choose either the area of plant molecular biology or virology/immunology, for research directed toward an M.S. thesis. After submission of a research proposal, the student will begin research in the laboratory of a thesis advisor. An M.S. graduate will be capable of conducting and directing independent work in academic or industrial laboratories at a higher level than the B.S. graduate.
