The field of biotechnology draws from many of the biological sciences and provides important applications to the biomedical, agricultural and environmental sciences. The Master of Science in Biotechnology, offered in the School of Science & Computer Engineering at UHCL, seeks to produce scientists and senior technicians with advanced knowledge and skills in biology and related disciplines. This degree qualifies them for careers in laboratory research in biotechnology industry and academic institutes and/or in the areas of management and marketing in biotechnology companies. The program is interdisciplinary and is the only one in Texas that offers the following three concentration areas for students to pursue: Molecular Biotechnology This specialization provides students with skills in advance laboratory techniques and an advance understanding of the theoretical aspects of the biological processes related to biotechnology in cell, developmental & molecular biology, physiology, microbiology and toxicology. Bioinformatics/Computational Biology This specialization provides students with skills in bioinformatics that include database recognition and management, data mining and the development of algorithms.
