The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers graduate programs leading to the M.S. or Ph.D. degree. The size and nature of the program foster close interactions between faculty members and students. Upon entering the program, students rotate through several research laboratories before choosing a major professor and research project. The graduate program offers advanced courses in biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as weekly journal clubs and seminars, which develop scientific communication skills. Research programs of the faculty members encompass developmental genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology of cancer, control of gene expression, signal transduction, biochemical molecular neuroendocrinology, molecular population genetics, and macromolecular associations.
