The Culture, Curriculum and Change specialization within the Ph.D. in Education is explicitly committed to promoting educational, race, gender, and class equity. Our goal is to use theory, research, and activism to alter existing educational practice. Graduate students will develop individualized programs of studies that allow them to pursue academic and/or research careers in Teacher Education (Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Secondary Education, Math Education, Science Education, Social Studies Education, Language Arts Education, or English as a Second Language and Foreign Language Education), Social Foundations of Education (Anthropology, Sociology, History and Philosophy of Education), Curriculum Theory, Multicultural Education and/or Educational Policy Studies with a focus on issues of race, class, and gender. The program typically requires 3 to 4 year of study. Most of our graduates either become professors of education or work in educational policy.
