The developmental program studies the development of individuals and contexts (e.g., family, schools, and community) and how the two interrelate. A life-span perspective is emphasized. Typical as well as atypical development, normative transitions, and the impact of nonnormative events are examed. The methodology of developmental research is stressed and effort is made to generate knowledge and theory that have potential for application to social issues related to the development of individuals across the life span.
