The M.S and the Ph.D. programs in Human Development and Family Studies are designed to prepare the next generation of scholars for positions as researchers, professors, and leaders in early childhood, human development, family studies, human services and related fields. The program emphasizes risk and resilience, multi-cultural issues, disabilities, and prevention and intervention. The focus is on applying theory and research to practice as they relate to human development and family systems. Course work is designed to provide a strong background in the theoretical and empirical knowledge of family studies, human development and research methods. Training in applied research and service learning experiences are integrated into the curriculum. The Masters' degree in Early Childhood Education allows educators and potential educators to acquire the credits they need to increase their salaries and gain promotions. Another option in the graduate program are 2 certificate programs: Early Literacy Specialty Certification and Certification inn Adult support and Supervision The Master of Arts degree in Counseling in Higher Education has two concentrations: College Counseling and Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education. The College Counseling concentration provides training and practice in short-term educational, vocational, and personal counseling of adolescents and young adults. The Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education concentration is designed to prepare candidates for administrative positions. Both programs also prepare students to pursue doctoral studies in higher education.
