Graduate instruction at the master's degree level is offered in the following areas of history: the Ancient Mediterranean; Medieval, Early Modern, and Modern European, including Great Britain and Russia; the United States, including colonial American and African American history; the Middle East; East and South Asian; and Latin America. In addition, graduate instruction is offered in such comparative or topical areas as Military History, Women's History, History of Religion, Jewish History, and the History of Science. Doctoral programs ordinarily are limited to American, Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern British and European, Modern European, and East Asian History; as well as comparative studies in the History of War and Society; Women's History; the History of Industry, Agriculture, and Society; the History of Science and Technology; and the History of Religion. Prospective doctoral candidates are invited to contact the graduate officer about the current availability of any of these or other areas before applying.
