The particular needs of actors, directors, and playwrights are addressed by systematic, instructional tracks within this program. The program enables talented students to bring to the art of the theatre a high artistic and ethical purpose, and trains students not only in the traditional skills necessary for a professional life in the theatre, but enables each to develop a personal vision of theatre as a dynamic cultural force in our society. The M.A. Program in Theatre History and Criticism prepares students to enter the field of theatre studies, with a particular consideration of the play within its social context and the production as a significant cultural expression.
