On Campus

The Performance Studies program leading to the M.F.A. provides training for the professional theatre that emphasizes the collaborative creation of the performance event and the integration of performance and critical studies. The particular needs of actors, directors, and playwrights are addressed by systematic, instructional tracks within this program. The program enables talented students to bring to the art of the theatre a high artistic and ethical purpose, and trains students not only in the traditional skills necessary for a professional life in the theatre, but enables each to develop a personal vision of theatre as a dynamic cultural force in our society. The M.A. Program in Theatre History and Criticism prepares students to enter the field of theatre studies, with a particular consideration of the play within its social context and the production as a significant cultural expression. M.A. students will be incorporated into the ensemble work as dramaturgs to gain firsthand experience of the collaborative process.
