M.A. - Africana Studies
On Campus

The Program in Africana Studies leading to an M.A. degree offers a broad interdisciplinary curriculum devoted to scholarship on the histories, political and cultural movements, institutions, economies, and identities of Africans and the African diaspora across the globe. Accordingly, the Program in Africana Studies is a site for interdisciplinary and cross-cultural teaching and research in the histories, cultures, economies, politics, and languages and cultural practices of Africans in Africa, the Americas–North and South, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. The Master of Arts degree prepares students for further research leading to the Ph.D. degree in history, literature, American studies, anthropology, political science, sociology, or cinema studies or leading to a career in education, cultural institutions, or public affairs.
