Ranked among the Top 10 Evolutionary Biology Programs in the United States, Indiana University is a flagship program into the field of Evolution. The most recent Academic Analytics Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index ranks our Evolution faculty #6 in terms of research productivity.  Additionally, the field of Evolutionary Development (or Evo-Devo) has roots in our department thanks to Distinguished Professors Rudolf A. Raff and Thomas Kaufman.

As a graduate student in our department, you will have access to distinguished faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and world-class institutes. You will receive rigorous training in a very collegial atmosphere. Admission to our doctoral program is competitive, and our graduate students are guaranteed at least five years of support in the form of assistantships (research or teaching) or fellowships. Stipends for 2009-2010 are $24,000, which is competitive based on the low cost-of-living in Bloomington. This fact allows our graduate students to lead well-rounded, fulfilling lives, and not have to choose between graduate school or starting a family.
