The mission of the Master of Arts and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology (MA/CAS) program is to prepare professional school psychologists who work in a competent and creative way with children, parents and educational personnel in the school system and various other settings. The MA/CAS meets the educational requirements for licensure as a school psychologist in North Carolina, for State Board of Psychology licensure in North Carolina as a Psychological Associate, and certification by the National School Psychology Certification Board. Graduates also qualify for certification and licensure in many other states. The MA/CAS program is a combined degree program, and both degrees are awarded simultaneously upon successful completion of the program. The specialist program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The MA/CAS program requires 63 semester hours, including a 1,200 hour full-time internship, a thesis (6 semester hours), and 51 semester hours of course work. Pediatric School Psychology is an emerging sub-specialty of school psychology that includes the competencies of both school psychology and health psychology. Pediatric school psychologists bring the understanding of learning, development and schools that is characteristic of school psychologists and develop the knowledge of health problems and the health care system that is characteristic of the health psychologist. The program is 106 semester hours past the bachelors degree, including a full-year paid internship. The PhD program in health psychology with a pediatric school psychology concentration is designed to meet accreditation criteria of the American Psychological Association. Admission too all programs is for full-time graduate study, beginning in the fall semester only. The programs are full-time with classes offered on-campus during the day. No distance education option for this program.
