The department offers graduate degrees in both sociology and criminology at the MA and Ph.D levels. The program emphasizes preparation for careers in academic institutions but our alumni have also chosen opportunities in research and administration. Students are exposed to broad training in the latest research methodology and statistical analysis and contemporary social theory as well as specialized advanced training in substantive specialties. The department currently offers specializations in several areas: collective behavior, deviance, criminology, gender studies, organizational analysis, research methods, and social theory. In addition, students may develop other specializations tailored to their own interests and career goals.
