On Campus

The Department of Physics in the College of Humanities and Sciences offers the following three tracks for a Master of Science degree in Physics: instrumentation, material physics and research. The program also offers opportunities for concentrated studies in chemical physics. The chemical physics concentration is ideal for students that wish to pursue the Ph.D. in Chemistry/Chemical Physics Option. Current research interests in the Department of Physics include: atomic clusters, nanoscale materials, metal-hydrogen systems, defects in metals, cosmology, general relativity, quantum gravity, charge and spin density waves, response functions for simple metals, high temperature superconductivity, strongly correlated systems, polymerization kinetics in biopolymers, conducting polymers, low energy electron diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy, spin polarized electron spectroscopy, magnetism and structure of thin films, surface properties using synchrotron radiation, and time resolved RHEED studies of surfaces.
