The Department of Human Genetics in the School of Medicine offers advanced graduate study leading to the Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling. The program offers students a comprehensive range of clinical, research and educational opportunities in human genetics. The complexity and intensity of genetic counseling requires that students be particularly mature, motivated and understanding. Personal experience with direct counseling, in a paid or volunteer position, is encouraged. A thesis is not required for the degree in genetic counseling. In lieu of the thesis students are required to complete a master's research project and successfully pass comprehensive oral and written examinations.
