The graduate program in the Department of Pharmacology/Toxicology is designed to prepare students for careers in teaching and research in academia, government, industry, or medicine. The primary emphasis is on the Ph.D. program.

Since pharmacology and toxicology encompass a wide range of research areas that draw on the concepts and tools of both biological and physical sciences, it is desirable to attract students with a wide range of interests and backgrounds. A student may be admitted to the graduate program if he or she has an M.D., D.V.M., D.O., or D.D.S. degree; an M.S. degree in pharmacology, zoology, pharmacy, physiology, etc.; or a B.S. degree in any discipline of the basic sciences from an accredited university.
